Cry Me A River

Good bye to all my friends. Good bye to Mouse, my sweet little baby who slept in my arms every night. Good bye to my sisters ferret, Pigpen, (on the left), who is now with his sister, Sassy. He lived up to his name. Good bye to George, too young to leave us. And what a handsome guy he was. Good bye to Lil Bit, a very sweet kitty indeed. Good bye to Suzie, who was inherited. She is now with her [human] dad, who I know is very happy to have her back. Good bye to Shadow. He would pat his owners face with his paw, or reach up from the floor to pat her shoulder to get all the love and attention he could get. Heaven is full of love, and these friends must all feel at home, waiting for the day when we can all be together again.

Seperated at Birth

Mouse the cat, Stella the dog. They are almost the same pet.
Both ladies are small and petite and delicate.
Both are sweet as sweet can be,
and yet both have a measure of sass for good measure.
I like the sass part!

Still Alive

Despite that my cats, having planned my demise if I didn't meet their demands, I am STILL ALIVE!
Maybe they realized I am the nice lady who feeds them. Maybe they realized I pay the rent, so they can continue to live in luxery. Who knows?--maybe they realized they (dare I say it?!!?) ... love me. (gasp!)

It could happen.

How Many Teeth

Mouse (AKA George) had her dental work done a few weeks ago.
Ever since I got her, over two years ago, the vet said she needed her teeth out. All of them.
Twice she had teeth out at my vet, who promptly gives me the contact info for a local vetrinary dentist.
For two years it has been in the back of my head that Mouse needs her teeth out, so Momma hasn't had her regular cleanings. Shame on Momma. But Momma the importance of good oral hygiene. Her decayed and broken teeth were nothing more than a passageway for bacteria to get into her fragile little body.
Thanks, in part, to my $600 tax stimulus check, that made a nice little downpayment on her dental work.
Mouse had 5 of her teeth out. Consult, sedation, xrays, extractions and medications = $1566. Some people think that is a bit much, and it was. Believe me, I sweat that payment. But it was sooo worth it.

Here she is, showing me what's left.... not alot, but it looks like she can still put up a bit of a fight.

Recently, I met an art student, and commisioned him to do a portrait of my three cats. I think Max likes it. I certainly do.

The Things You Do For Love

Aug. 2, 2006. The Day i brought home George. She's a girl, you know, named after someone that was special to me, as well as another female cat named George.
She moved in with health problems, unbeknownst to me. But it was love at first sight, as she reminded me of the most incredible cat ever (only a tinier version), who passed away last Feb. Regardless of health issues, this little Georgie-girl is with me until death do us part. I hope that is a long time away.

George, whom I also call Mouse, because she is so small, suffers from Irratble Bowel Syndrom (IBS). Because of her soft stool, her colon is raw. Her anal glands fill up, and don't express themselves naturally. I am learning much more about cat butts than i ever wanted to know!

I allergy tested her. Perhaps foods she is allergic to is irrating her digestive tract. I have a list of five things to avoid, so she is on a special diet. I tried several rounds of antibiotics. I add slipper elm for healthy bowels to her food. I add two forms of digestive health aids. I add a little plain yogurt and a little apple cider vinegar to act as pro-biotics. I give her a dose of licorice in the evening to quiet her stomach. I have plug-in pheramones to help keep her calm. Today I am starting a round of another medication with cortizone in it, to see it that may help. The next step would be to try a raw diet, but I am hesitant about that, only because i don't like handeling raw meat. It reminds me too much of death.
I don't want to do too much all at once. I try something new, and we stick with it for awhile to see if there are any changes. Gradually, adding more.
I hope I can get her to a healthy state again. She is such a love! She is a lap cat, of the best kind. She sleep by my side, near my head, and every night, comes to cuddle and purr. Ever notice how relaxing a purr sounds?
Until we get her stools to a healthy consistancy, she will have to go to the vet monthly to have her anal glands expressed. She does not like that very much. Of all the cats I have had in my live, she is by far the smallest one (6 pounds), with the most dangerous personality at the vet's! They have to resort to the heavy suede gloves to handle her. She's a powerfil stick of dynomite, that Mouse!

To Name an Angel

I fell in love yesterday at my local pet shelter. If I survive the next two days of temperatures in the 100's, with heat index reaching 115, I think will return to adopt this cute little girl. Her name, at present, is Rochelle. She was found on the shelter's doorstep in late June, so not much is known about her. They estimate her age to be ten years old.

She looks alot like a very tiny version of the best cat ever, Aunt Sue, who passed away in Feb. She even has the freckles on her nose like the Sue had.

Thinking about changing her name, since "Rochelle" hasn't been her name for long. My first idea was "Aunt Ruth," to honor both the late great Aunt Sue, and a favorite aunt of mine, that passed away several years ago. However, I am also considering "George" as a name, short for "Georgette." I have known two men in my life named George, both were extraordinary men, very special to me.

The more I think about it, the more I like "George" as a name. It's only one syllable. And Aunt Sue was one of a kind. Do we really need another "Aunt" in our lives? Not to mention I have a sister named Ruth, who might think I named it after her.

I LOVE ORANGE TABBIES, especially when they are female.

[Note: for those of you who don't know--female orange tabbies are a rare breed. in order to get an orange female, both parents need to be orange.]
