Clue

A happy guy, Clue was a rescue dog. An emaciated pit bull, being kicked down a street, a pet shelter worked him snatched him away from his abuser. He went into a shelter until my client brought him home. Despite the abuse he had endured, he was a happy guy, so proud to walk down the street. He was happy to be outside, happy to be around other dogs, he could walk forever.
Then he got sick. Diagnosed with a huge tumor in his stomach, the doctors didn't think he'd live the week. He made it another 5 months. He had his moments, but he was pretty happy up to the end.
I last visited with him yesterday. His owner was home at the time, and said he was having trouble standing, so I walked their other dog. Clue wanted to join us, and when he couldn't, he waited at the door for our return.
He continued to deteriote, and last night got really bad.
Clue died today.

February Blues

Not a great month for me, as a pet sitter.

One client called to tell me her dog had died overnight. I had to go over and help her with getting the dog to the vet for creamation. It was a 50 pound dog, with rigamortis. I had to get a neighbor to help me get the dog down the stairs, as the client was a bit elderly with a bad shoulder.

Another client's dog was diagnosed with leukemia. She got the diagnosis on her birthday, while her husband and children were out of the house. I went over and sat (and cried) with her until they returned home. She calls with updates. The dog is getting chemotherapy. They have not diagnosed the kind of leukemia, but it is stage four, which means it has srpead to the bone marrow.

Still anotehr client just had thier dog diagnosed with stomach cancer. He was rescued from a very abusive and neglected situation, and is lucky enough to live out his remaining days in a wonderful loving household. (Clue is pictured above.)

Lastly, I have a pregnant client, who had 3 cats, recently down to one. The two that died, died withing a few months of each other, and both were too young to die. The client has OCD, and is off her medication until after her baby is born. She finds herself obsessing about the remaining cat's health. I have tried to support her, and encourage her that her remaining cat is OK.

I do my best to support my clients in times of pet crisis. I love thier pets too! And I cry right along with them.

three dog night

Lucy the Bullmastiff, Napoleon the rottweiler, and Clue the Pit Bull.
Napoleon and Clue were shelter rescues, recently adopted by fairly new clients. Aren't they a cute family??? And bless the humans that care for them!
I think I love Clue the best. He is such a pleasure to walk. He has a bounce and walks with such pride and happiness. He is contagious!
Lucy is a riot. Every day we have to walk up the street and say hello to the man who sells insurance. He is her boyfriend.
Napoleon is the newest. I have only walked him four days so far, so his personality is still emerging. But look at his face!
How could anyone not love these guys (and a doll)?
