Essential Worker

It's the start of the 3rd year of the pandemic, and Patch is sick.

He's an old cat, in his 18th year. While his humans were away for Thanksgiving, I took care of him, administering sub q fluids and medication. Patch made it to Christmas, but not to the New Year. He deteriorated and his family knew it was time. The hardest decision ever to make, but the right one. The problem is that everyone in the house tested positive for Covid. I got the phone call, and before they could ask, I offered. That evening, I took Patch to the vet for the last time. How sad that his family could only be with him via FaceTime.
